Fire trade up, draft UIC's Husidic Share |
The Fire traded its second round pick (No. 28 overall) and Matt Pickens' rights to Colorado for an allocation and the No. 20 pick in the second round, which it used to select Illinois-Chicago's Baggio Husidic.
"I never thought it would happen," said Husidic, who just last week was telling me how much he would love to stay in Chicago. "When they announced the trade, I had a little gut feeling the Fire would take me.
"This is the best feeling in the world."
The NCAA All-American is a Generation adidas player, which means his salary will not count against the salary cap. Husidic was used as an attacking midfielder at UIC but had many MLS scouts seeing him as a defensive midfielder.
